The German economy is not exactly running smoothly. Factors like the war in Ukraine and the energy crisis led to a cautious economic outlook at the start of the year. However, the demand for labor remains relatively high, and many recruiters are having a difficult time finding new employees. One indicator of this is the length of time open jobs remain vacant. According to the Bundesagentur für Arbeit (Federal Employment Agency), this is 143 days across all professional sectors – 24 days more than in 2021. Even for industries that were impacted particularly hard by the pandemic, like retail, transportation or hospitality, research institutions project significant increases in employment for 2023 up to the pre coronavirus level.

For the sixteenth time, the DEKRA Akademie has examined determine which professions and professional categories are most in demand based on job postings. The analysis of 13,184 open positions confirms: A damper has been placed on certain professional areas compared to the previous year, such as sales. Others, in contrast, climb from one all-time-high to the next in terms of staffing requirements.
