Engineers and IT professionals converging once again

Almost one in five positions available in the overall sample is in the development occupational area. The percentage of engineering positions has grown significantly, while the sample contains fewer IT positions. Software developers and programmers, electrical engineers, architects, and civil engineers remain the most in-demand specializations.

Since the analysis began, technical professions have never made up such a high percentage of the occupational area as they do now. The share held by such professions has grown each year since 2019. Employers are looking for more electrical and measurement technicians as well as service technicians (28th and 30th place). Technical draftsmen and mechanical engineering technicians can also choose from slightly more open positions than in the last survey.

STEM areas are experiencing the greatest shortages of specialist workers. Employers are most frequently seeking machine and system operators for system controlling and automation. This profession did not make it back to the top 10, but is in 15th position (2022: 9). In addition, the sample showed somewhat more job offerings for CNC specialists, cutting machine operators, and lathe operators.
