Methodology
Objective and approach

Since 2008, the annual DEKRA labor market report has been investigating which professions and qualifications are in highest demand. To do so, DEKRA analyzes job advertisements in online job portals and daily newspapers at the end of February each year.

13,281 job advertisements from two online job portals and eleven daily newspapers from employers looking for new workers were evaluated for the current analysis. The sample, however, included only 13,183 job offerings, since ads with incomplete information were excluded. The date of record for jobs collected from daily newspapers was February 25th, 2023. The daily newspapers were evenly distributed throughout Germany. The core period of evaluation for online job advertisements was February 20th through 26th, 2023.

In addition to the overview analysis, two professional groups are selected for more detailed analysis. This year, the jobs selected were electronics technicians, who are in demand for work related to the energy and climate revolution, and commercial employees in e-commerce. The full texts of 350 job advertisements were analyzed for each of these professions. The goal of the job-specific analyses is to gather information on the duties of and requirements for job seekers.

In a side note, we address ideas and approaches companies are using to react to increasing shortages in trained professionals, and changing requirements for employees. To evaluate these, we surveyed experts from academic and practical fields for extraordinary approaches.

Diversity is important to us. Wherever possible, we use gender-neutral pronouns in these documents. These are intended to include persons of all genders without discrimination. This approach makes the content of these texts clearer and easier to understand.
