Duties of
electronics technicians
Most common duties: Maintenance and installation
Employers most often list operational tasks in their job advertisements. According to these ads, the everyday work of many electricians includes maintaining and repairing existing systems and equipment. They must document this work carefully, since certain inspection and maintenance intervals are required by law. Almost three out of ten ads for electrical specialists say their jobs will involve analyzing errors and correcting faults. 15.4 % of the ads are for specialists working directly in technical service, and require on-call duty.
Four out of ten of the ads are for specialists to install technical systems and equipment. One third of job advertisements are directed towards experienced job seekers who can complete acceptance procedures for and operate systems. Before commissioning, however, systems need to be carefully tested and measured in order to ensure they operate without errors. Almost one out of four specialists is also expected to handle installation work.
Some of the job descriptions also include non-technical duties (17.7 %). Employers often indicate that customer meetings, for instance, will be part of the duties for the advertised position. Electronics technicians are often in contact with building developers, in particular for private construction projects – whether to coordinate work or explain the installed systems.
